Hi,

I recently signed up to QVC. Unfortunately, I didn't bother to record my QVC membership number as took it for granted they'll send me a confirmation email and/or details etc. as most sites do when you sign up..including shoppingtellyforum :) It didn't help that my PC restarted after I placed my order hence I couldn't find the membership number on my history.

Even after placing my order, I only got a confirmation email order and they didn't include my membership number on them!! Still no sign of a welcoming email etc. So, I decided to call them for my membership number as I wanted to place another order. The customer officer asked for my details - postcode, address and then to my surprise asked for my pin number? She asked if I knew my pin number. I said yes, I knew my pin number but I only wanted to know my account number as I didn't jot it down and didn't receive any confirmation/welcoming email.

As the pin number was set up by me, shouldn't it be the case that I don't have to disclose to them? Isn't the pin number like a password? However, they required me to give them my pin number. I told them that it's my numbercode and was reluctant to hand over the details. I've got nothing against the officer but to me it's like telling a stranger my pin number to my account. Let's just said I was annoyed and told the officer never mind and hang up. Wonder what would happen if I had said I don't know my pin number? *ponder* Maybe it would have made my life easier.

1) If you're a QVC customer, in your opinion, is the pin number that you setup private or 'public'/disclosable?

2) Does anyone know QVC's direct customer service email. I did wanted to sent them my query. However, it requires my QVC membership number when using their website.

Looks like I'll have to wait until my first order arrive in order to get my membership number.

You will get a welcome pack in due course so that will have your membership number in it.
As for the pin no as far as I know QVC use it to confirm you are who you say you are when you phone them as they now have a system that remembers your phone number and automatically links it to your account. So any one could be phoning from your home number and they use the pin to confirm your identity. I hope this helps.

Don't be too sure...I phoned on a friend's phone to put in an order, gave my name and my pin number.....so she took the order and only she couldn't match my card number did a problem arise!!! She
hadn''t noticed that I had given her a completely DIFFERENT NAME let alone a DIFFERENT PIN.....!!!!!!

It really worries me that there are no additional security measures apart from the PIN, which all QVC employees have access to. I'd much prefer to have a password/passnumber that only I know, and the PIN as a piece of memorable data that they ask about to verify identity.

I've tried to ask QVC about their data protection and security before now, but always got fobbed off.

One of the easiest ones to crack is used by banks etc. What was your mother's maiden name. That is why you should destory papers with your name address etc and not just throw in the bed.

I had to change my pin with QVC way back, as I just used part of my phone number. One a woman at CS told me to give her new number as the one I had was too easy.

Seems CS cannot accept your account unless you give your pin to them.
