Anyone else seen the numerous shows on Gemporia where they're selling jewellery with a 'King Charles' hallmark?
As usual, they're hyping it up as a 'once in a lifetime' occasion and implying that their hallmark could potentially be worth something in years to come. Some of the presenters have also claimed that the hallmark is only available in 'limited' quantities.
a) It isn't an official hallmark.
b) Yes, it's limited to an extent - but not to a set number of, say, 1000 pieces of Jewellery across the whole Gemporia inventory. It's just a limited amount PER DESIGN (30 of one design for example, 50 of another design, etc). They're making it sound like you're going to get a limited edition piece of jewellery - but they're being quite clever with their wording. On Sunday alone, they sold a Silver gold band with a quantity of over 100. That's just that design. There are lots of designs in total with this hallmark.
That's hundreds, if not thousands, of items of jewellery with this King Charles 'hallmark'. So not that limited or exclusive at all really.
It seems like they're trying to milk the Coronation while they can to make some extra money. The Silver band ring that they sold on Sunday was just over 3 grams, and just a simple band of silver. No gems. It sold for £49.99p, if my memory serves me correctly. They made a big fuss over the 'hallmark'.
On the same evening, they sold another Silver band ring but with some patterning to it. It was a far nicer ring. That had over 4 grams of silver, with no gemstones again. That sold for £14 odd (£14.56 rings a bell).
£35 less, for more silver weight, and more detailed metalwork.
£35 price difference for an unofficial hallmark - and one that isn't limited in quantity either.
This is the OFFICIAL 'King Charles' Coronation hallmark - approved by the British Hallmarking Council and the four UK Assay Offices.
