Can anyone shed any light on East, I don't recognise them, rarely shop on the high street for many reasons, mainly lack of time. There is a pic of a black dress that looks nice depending on price, anyone have any items from them? are they usually in a department store?

There are East clothing shops in the DHSt but do not know if the dress you saw is the same. They are in loads of towns and have a website too, east.co.uk I believe.

I've got several items from East,lovely long maxis,2 jackets,skirts & cardis.

Quality is excellent though prices more expensive than the usual high street stores.

My mum likes East (that's not a criticism she's a young and well dressed 62!) and I like their jewellery though we do both tend to shop in their sales!
It tends to be quite embellished (in a nice way), focus on linen and cottons and maybe a slightly ethnic or smart-boho feel?

Here you go:
ABOUT EAST
EAST's journey began as a small independent boutique on the Fulham Road, London in 1984. The original vision was to create and promote beautiful, Eastern inspired, clothes and accessories that would be desired by women who celebrate individuality. Early collections were created in Jaipur, India.

Today we have grown to over 100 stores and concessions and yet remain true to our vision. Designing in London we look to the East for key inspirations. Our design talent and buying expertise allow us to create collections that give customers the opportunity to express and celebrate individuality. We delight in globally inspired colour, texture and prints; showing care, passion and spirit in our product development. We aim to complement our Eastern inspired pieces with stylish, everyday essentials; and look to use natural fabrics when they fulfill the drape and fit desired.

I have a dress from East - nicely made and fits well. Bought from John Lewis a while back.

I feel I'm gonna get shot down for this but this range looks a little like Casual & Co but much much better quality, there are a couple of items I'm tempted by, thnx for the list SCW!

I'm tall and I have never managed to find anything in East that fits me though I like their clothes

My sister is 6' and I do feel for tall ladies as she finds it difficult, in fact just as much as I find it difficult being 5'4" she does at her height the difference being I can shorten things she can't lengthen things, I don't know why taller people are not catered for more as everyone nowadays seems to tower over me, seems its time the high street caught up with this!

Yep I had a look on their website, they do seem expensive but with many seeming to be cotton and linen and many on here saying it's very good quality it probably explains the prices, I'm looking forward to seeing the range on Q!

I'm 5'10 or 11" (seems to change!) and I can rarely shop in your average shop (unless it's just for tops etc) so tend to buy a LOT from Long Tall Sally and tall girls (oh and next has tall lengths and Dotty Perkins does a small range too I believe). It's really restrictive even for things like pjs!

At 5ft dot, I dream of being tall, and preferably willowy but understand that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence .

I wouldn't consider it formal wear at all, I'd say its on the smarter side of casual because the quality is good. Some stuff is too ornate for me but do have a number of their jersey wrap tops and knot front dresses for holidays. I only buy in their sales. Beware their 100% viscose blouses say hand wash only - I put them in the hand wash cycle of my washing machine and they both shrank by two sizes and had to be binned.

Good to know, thnx!

I have loads of viscose items and they do appear to shrink after washing, but I've found that sometimes gentle stretching while still damp brings them back to size. I regularly buy from East, but mainly in the sale now, I have pieces I have had for years and they just last and last. They are generously cut.

I agree on the sizing, I'm a 12-14, erring towards 14 at present, and usually an east 12 is fine. I even have a couple of east looser fit tops in their 10 and no way am I a 10! I did try stretching the shrunk blouses while wet but no luck.
