Yesterday, Ellis was doing a gold show - claiming that the prices reflected 'just the gold price' and that the stone was 'free'. The on-screen graphics for the themed hour even referenced a 'free stone'.

They were doing 'to the penny' calculations on-air, suggesting that you were getting a bargain.

What were their prices based on? 1 gram of gold at last years prices of, supposedly, £123 per gram. However, this was based on their stupid idea of buying 6 random rings from jewellers last year and 'evening-out' the prices to give an average price of the gold.

It WAS NOT based on 'real-world' prices of gold.

The actual price of 1 gram of 9k gold in 2023 was just £23-£25.

Two sources confirm this: London Gold Market AND BullionByPost.

So it was nonsense to suggest that a gram of 9k gold was £123 - and it even more nonsensical to suggest that the stone is 'free'.

Reported!

Call me stupid, but if you had 6 rings and the gold cost 'x' per gram, it wouldn't matter if you had 500 rings. Added up they would equal 'y' amount of grams, and then you times that by the current price of gold. NOT by how many rings. That's stupid.

The whole thing is ridiculous anyway because they've worked their prices out on rings sold at retail prices.

They buy their gold at trade prices - and then they factor in the cost of the stone and other expenses on top. You could have two rings both weighing 3 grams each - one being a simple band design, the other being a more complex design. Obviously, the more complex design will cost more.

If viewers/customers believe the ***** that Gemporia come out with, then they're extremely gullible.

Even then, 9k jewelry isn’t equivalent to 24k pure gold price. You’d need to apply the fraction of pure gold present, even if averaged. Saying all that the stone and human labour costs are not insignificant and if I were in Jake’s position, i’d be breaking the price down based on that to align with Steve’s sustainability and welfare aspirations.

Annnnnnnnd another.

Lindsey Carr is flogging a reed diffuser. It comes with a Tiger pendant (base metal at a guess).

Lindsey shows the tiger pendant and says "How much would you pay for this on Bond Street - you'd be paying 20,000 plus".

Even if it were 'real' metal: assuming it's £s and not Pennies, 20,000? If you spent that much on it, you'd literally have money to burn and NOT miss it. But silliness aside, it's that good, it's free with a £10 diffuser?

Is she for real? What complete nonsense and an insult to the viewers' intelligence. 👎

They really ought to rein her in, she comes out with total bonkers-speak and makes herself look so ridiculous. I know all the presenters exaggerate somewhat (understatement of the century), but I think she just plucks descriptions and comparison figures out of thin air. I can't stand her whiney voice so rarely watch her for more than a couple of minutes, but there seems to be an off-the-wall comparison with every single piece she shows.

I think this is exactly what she does. She's thick, and things just come out of her gob without any thought.

Bearing in mind that Gemporia have already had a warning this year for, surprise surprise, Lindsey Carr making an outrageous claim about a pearl necklace earlier in the year, in theory, the ASA should now give them a 'strike' - but, assuming they'll even bother to do anything, not doubt they'll just give Gemporia their 65,275th warning...........

Quite clear the ASA have no intentions of ever doing anything to penalise them, so ASA are a total waste of space. If Gemporia have hard copies of all the so-called 'warnings' they've received from ASA they must have a room with a reinforced floor, to hold a filing cabinet the size of Buck House.:D

A gold tone filing cabinet, of course
