I don't blame you, no different to any other day and no fun if you can't all agree on the speed to move along at. Same for me pretty much, can't recall ever eating Christmas/Boxing day lunch anywhere other than at home or at my sisters, even that is not easy now with the close to 200 miles...

I find a lot of dishes with ready done mash are not that nice. Just too squidgy and not much flavour. Think with the above I would have gone with some boiled salad potatoes or some of those microwaveable potatoes in herb butter...

It does occur to me that being forced to watch would be categorised as torture even though it would probably reform anyone apart from the most hardened criminals or terror suspects.
