Quite a few years ago, I did some work for a pharmaceutical company in Germany. The chap in charge was called Dr. Kl*x, and when we started work one day, early in the morning, we all went for a cup of coffee, and there was one of those Kl*x drinks machines. Turns out that the name Kl*x is the...

It’s like everything Ronzy. The Chinese make (or at least assemble) iPhones for Apple. But they equally turn out power bank sets that are dangerously wired and potentially lethal (as Big Clive often shows on YouTube). If I could generalise for a second, they are a nation of unfettered...

David ‘burger’ van day. Was running a burger van in Brighton and then tried to wrestle Bucks Fizz away to be his own band, I believe.

It’s probably a press-on back. There might be a small indentation in it - if so you insert a thin, sturdy blade then the back will flip off (careful of fingers). They are the cheapest to make, so I’d be betting that’s what they’ll have used. In any case - good luck. If I find a mechanism in the...

Now I have an image of him with two old goats doing just that in my head! I didn’t really expect that! 🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮

Thinking about it, its probably a 21J movement. Not really worthy of repair, but there are a couple of things you could try. Do you have any Epilame Fixodrop? You could try cleaning the reversing wheel and then treating it with some? It’s dear though - so if you didn’t have any it would cost...

Sounds like debris blocking it. If you can open the case, you might be able to see a hair or other debris in there. Be careful, though, because it’s still working with a manual wind, so it has to be in the automatic works. At that price, though it’s pretty much disposable, I’m very sorry.

Now that doesn’t happen often! 🤣

Spot on, Duke. Tissot were selling one of their automatic T-Classics with the ETA 2836-2 mechanism (basically a 2824-2 with a day window as well as date) for £475 a couple of years ago at WoS and Goldsmiths. Hamilton have similar variants as well. It really, really annoys me when IW make claims...

That was the reason I said it. I guess I was a bit too cryptic!

I heard his surgeon took both buttocks to replace his cheeks. For some reason, no one wants to kiss him on the lips any more. 🤮

If only we all knew someone who used to be under that Ronald McDonald clown outfit. But no. He’d surely have retired to a lovely house in Cheshire now - he’d not be selling tat on selly-telly while claiming to live in a hovel would he? Oh. 🤣🤣

You know what they say. Some marriages start with Hearts and Diamonds. But then progress to a club and a spade…. 🤣🤣

Can I disagree? I’ve been a professional watchmaker, fully qualified, for almost 20 years, and Hammy is better than me at identifying mechanisms. Oh, I know I’d get there in the end, but Hammy is so quick, and always accurate. Don’t do yourself down, Hammy!

So, essentially, they are shysters, hoping to sell to liars. Heck of a brand strategy, that… Is the ‘liar’ market a buoyant one, then? 🤣

I think the problem is that the Chinese are capable of tremendous quality, but also real tat - and the numbers always favour the tat. A respected Chinese maker like Sea Gull can make good quality mechanisms, (though as a watchmaker, I’ve never found their quality control up to much - there are...

I agree totally with this for what it’s worth. Thanks Hammy. Most micro brands with Swiss partners or manufacturers sell the equivalent of Duchamp around £200-£300.
