I have one of those and bought it years ago. Depending on price I`ll buy another and maybe one for my DIL as part of her Christmas bag. They are really good.

Superdrug do a dupe range called Artiscent. The prices are really good and they`re regularly on offer. I`ve no idea which big name perfumes each one copies but no doubt there`ll be a list somewhere online.

I get their newsletters Win and the mould for those soaps is an original 1920`s mould used way back by the factory so they`ve done a special run of them. They found the mould by accident somewhere around the factory. I ordered one of their Christmas boxes for a guest I have coming on Boxing Day...

I love Rive Gauche. In fact most of my perfumes are somewhat old school. I love Houbigant Quelques Fleurs , Van Cleef First, Dior Forever and Ever, plus others. So many of the modern perfumes smell like fruit, air freshener or cleaning products.

No China I didn`t keep the bag because it was a similar style to the ones the late Queen used to wear and I would never have used it. The kind you just hook over your arm. Mum was the first female in her immediate family to die and quite a few of her belongings were given to her sisters. Not her...

I was once given a bottle of Beautiful and can`t say I liked it but accepted it in good grace and wore it until the bottle was empty. When my 2 older sons still lived at home and were in their teens neither of them had much money. One was a student and one was a young soldier who usually arrived...

I very rarely blind buy perfumes but I really fancied trying the Arpege several of you mentioned. It sounded right up my street. Anyway it arrived this morning and I love it. Just my cup of tea but as someone said you only need a light spritz of it. It`s a cold weather perfume IMO , too heavy...

Christmas shopping in the 1980's v today

I`ve finished my Christmas shopping and buy bits and bobs throughout the year as and when I see something I know someone will like. My granddaughters are both teenagers now and they like to go shopping on their own so they get mainly money but I still buy them some small items to open on...

Christmas shopping in the 1980's v today

Life was simpler back in the 80`s. Technology was in its infancy, the very few mobile phones were the size of a house brick with a long aerial on top and so expensive they were merely toys for the few who could afford them. Kids toys were still toys and apart from needing the odd battery they...

That was exactly how it was when my son first joined the Army 27 years ago. Each soldier was given a large white nylon drawstring bag with holes in it, they`d write their service number on it in waterproof ink and they`d fill it with their dirty uniforms, hand it in to the laundry and the whole...

My first ever washing machine was a sit up and beg type with wringers on the back and just a single tub. Someone gave it to me when I married in 1973. We lived in a tiny flat and the washing machine took up a big chunk of space in the kitchen. I didn`t have a spin dryer so when the clothes were...

The one soap which sticks in my nostrils more than any other is Derbac soap. Does anybody else remember it ? I hated the smell and every Sunday night (bath night) my Mum would wash all 4 kids hair in the stuff ready for returning to school on the Monday. She was paranoid about any of us catching...

When I was a kid we lived very near to a soap factory. At certain times of the day a large cloud of steam would escape from the factory chimney and the whole area smelled wonderful. The factory still works to this day and each soap is handmade, hand polished and packaged by hand. Much of the...

    Joules wellies

I`m lucky enough to have a branch not too far from me in Bury and anything I`ve bought as been from their store. I`m on their facebook page and they regularly post new items such as the Joules wellies plus any discount codes or offers. I saw the facebook post about the wellies this morning so...
