They really do stretch the bounds of credibility, don’t they? Most involved in sea sport would in the past, have worn (depending on funds) an Omega Seamaster, a Rolex Yacht-Master, a Breguet Marine, a Ulysses Nardin Marine Chronometer, an Oris 65, Longines Hydroconquest, Corum Admiral’s Cup...

Certainly I can imagine Uncle Quentin, Aunt Fanny and ****. I had to read those with a straight face to my little ones… At one point, in one of Enid’s books, I swear **** turned to Fanny and said ‘I like Cows’. No explanation, no context. But I soldiered on…..

I love the aging that bronze shows over time. Somehow that patina really appeals. I worked on a Zenith Elite a few weeks that (I think) looked stunning.

Yep. You can get all different colours. You paint the lume on (normally) from the underside of the hands- usually there’s a slit cut into each hand to help hold a decent quantity. Lume actually comes as a powder (leastways the stuff I buy does) and you mix it up.

Years ago, when I could still get around, I was at a the restaurant of hotel in Paris called ‘Le Parc’. Just like you folks,we like meat to be well-cooked, so we ordered it that way. Well, the chef took it as a personal insult! He came out of the kitchen, sat down at our table and (very kindly...

I’m not great on understanding the mechanics of forums, but has Terry left us? I actually didn’t want for anyone to leave - just to be nicer, especially if posting as an ‘insider’, as it were. Oh well

I’m sorry, but I disagree, and there’s lots of good psychological work showing that what you say in your second paragraph is the opposite of the case. Left wingers, because they self-define as ‘good’ often regard people from the right of centre as ‘other’ and hence bad. Additionally they are far...

Maybe. But I wouldn’t put it past him for that to all be an act? My ‘Branestawm’ name is because of two things… First, my job, when I’m well enough, (I have MS which makes it very hard to carry on) is watchmaking. And my friends all think of me as a bit of a mad professor, because to them it’s...

I always thought ‘Saintslad’ was either Peter S or someone close to him. Peter and Simon both being saints…. Mind you, as Peter himself said, he’s going to hell..

Thanks, Hammy. That’s actually really helpful. As I was typing the bit about Mathey-Tissot going under in the Quartz Crisis, I was wondering whether I’d actually read it, or just taken someone’s word for it. So as things stand now, MT are essentially a microbrand, producing entry-level...

I know what you mean, but in fairness there are lots of brands who went under in the quartz crisis and have been resurrected since. Matthey -Tissot are a tiny, resurrected, brand for sure, and I would expect that in part they are relying on brand confusion to boost sales, but in their automatic...

Really? Again? Why must you continually post like this? You seem, to me at least, to continually flip between obnoxious and sarcastic. And we have tried to include you. I truly believe this forum isn’t for you- would you not be happier finding one that is? Each to their own, I suppose, but it...

Hi Herring, You might find the link below useful. It compares the two companies… https://www.timepieceking.info/mathey-tissot-vs-tissot/#:~:text=Despite%20having%20some%20higher-priced%20models%20to%20its%20name%2C,whole%20is%20seen%20as%20a%20mid-to-high%20budget%20brand.

Agreed. Expect a total lifespan for their mechanical watches of a year or two, and that’ll usually be right. If they sold them that way - a way to get a new look for a year or so, with an essentially disposable product, then I’d not have too many quibbles (other than the simple fact that almost...

    Alternative jobs for presenters

Same is true for designer spectacles. Almost all the ‘designer glasses’ are made by a company called Luxottica. I have a close friend who is an optometrist and she said they cost, wholesale, literally £3-£30. But are sold for £200-£300. The designer, be that Ralph Lauren, or D&G, or Police, or...

well, if this is true, then I wouldn’t want you to feel that way. True loneliness can be devastating. As galesgal sad, though, if you were less aggressive, less combative, and more willing to be kind, I’m sure we would respond- but that isn’t what you’ve done so far. And if you are using more...
