What's the best thing you've bought?

Okay, I've become increasingly critical of the Gemporia family over the last 18 months or so. Especially after finding this forum! It wasn't always this way... Let's hark back to when we first started watching. And share what our best/ favourite/ rare/ unusual buys are? I started watching in...

    Lyndsay ...

    > adopt blasé tone of voice < Just pop those controversial stones into the Bennet Vault for xyz years, until any negative associations are forgotten... (^ that's not my opinion, or any insider information. Just a suggestion that someone cynical could be thinking that as a viable strategy)

Somebody please buy Adina a dictionary

I bought into the hype too. One of the most disappointing rings in my jewellery box. A "dirty" yellowish body colour with the merest hint of a colour shift. Crap baguette cut diamonds on the shoulders too. This was back when they were sending Lynne and Adina to the mine. So I wasn't in the...

    Gem Collector Prices

I love garnets, being a January baby and a magpie I've been buying garnet jewellery since I was 13. Imagine my joy 20 years later discovering tsavorite on Gems TV! Beautiful deep bright green in 18K white gold. Shortly after I bought a colour change garnet ring which was that pale brown colour...

    Gem Collector Prices

Thanks for explaining and finding an example. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge freely across the forums. I've been a bit of a magpie for years, love shiny rocks (as well as unusual beach pebbles, I started young!). It seems I have much to learn about facetted stones. Learning quite a bit...

    Gem Collector Prices

But yes, the number of dyed, diffused, assembled/ compressed and filled stones is depressing. I remember the days of the 50ct club on the website, with a range of sizes and cuts and shapes in each gemstone. I also remember when they used the tweezers much more, to give a good look all around...

    Gem Collector Prices

I've no idea what a fish eye is in a cut gemstone, but I've got a silly mental picture of someone in the vault randomly sticking googly eyes on 🤣

    Gem Collector Prices

I have a theory that generally the stones on GC are the "runts" of a parcel. Poor cut Visible inclusion Odd size Odd-one-out colour Surplus They have exceptions. Petroke kunzite. Aquamarines. I missed the rubies before Christmas. It'll be interesting to see what these Bennett vault emeralds...

I think the feedback is getting through

£179 the closing price. I've only ever seen serpentine as tumblestones for £1, so no idea how a bangle should be priced.

I think the feedback is getting through

Maybe not. "Serpentine jade" This is the opening price. "Urge you to multibuy". Jeez.

    More misleading?

I've seen the SI3 grade mentioned, very recently. Confused me a little as I'd seen SI1-2 and I3. Maybe we should ask Hattie to explain 🤣

I think the feedback is getting through

Our favourite purveyor of jade is on right now. It's a serpentine hour. He's just said "western gemologists wouldn't consider this jade". But he's "immersing us in the east" and if you search for new jade you'll get results for serpentine but "this is the oldest jade". I don't quite know what...

    More misleading?

Thanks. Nice to know it's yet more bluff and fluster spouted. I feel sorry for the viewers who will take what's said at face value. To be fair, anyone flicking over to Gem Collector later in the evening will have seen Foxy waxing lyrical about Zambian amethysts and their formation, saying that...

    More misleading?

I watched the "gold under £100" hour with Hattie at 5pm. Followed by the hot pick at six, a silver pendant with champagne quartz. Hattie was extolling the virtues of it being a natural quartz, unlike citrine or smoky quartz which are usually dyed. This was repeated a few minutes later. From my...

    Ludicrous Prices

Really? Illegal? I bought a ring from a live show for £299. It was consistently £299 every time I saw it on air, then £279 so I rang up and got my £20 price pledge. Saw it on the website last week at £199, no sign of any sale or clearance wording on the product page. Who do I tell?

    Ludicrous Prices

Have a look at the website tomorrow, or next week. The pieces on the live shows can be 50% more expensive than on the website sometimes!

    Bargain box

Yes, I heard them close the hour with "never seen anything sell out so quickly, only 1 box left". Saw it was still available so popped that last remaining box in my basket, to see there was the option of buying 3. I appreciate there's a sales pitch to be said. But who do they think they are...

    Bargain box

It smacks of desperation to me. And I don't watch much Gemporia these days. Certainly not if it's jade hours. But even I've heard all this spiel before more than once.
  19. O

    Bargain box

Not soon enough, if they're clearing out the vault with unsold pieces from 2021!

    Bargain box

Are you watching live? This is some of the biggest hype I've heard. Referring to customers from 20 years ago who have had outstanding variations on paraiba tourmaline. Seeding the thought that this mystery box will somehow fetch a comparable return in future. Showing the 4 independent...
