Somebody missed a comedy gold opportunity trick with this channel. The funniest unintentional thing on television by far. It would actually make a great comedy series. Trouble is, you would say the scripts were distorting the truth from reality far too much. Something the real thing does on a regular basis.
Victoria Wood would have done a great job. She had sketches featuring daytime television with her and Julie Walters discussing rubbish topics. Julie Walters' character was quite rude to her colleague which was funny. But maybe even she didn't have the talent to parody this lot. She would struggle to invent characters more ludicrous than them🤣

Two soups?? My second favourite sketch of all time. Four Candles being Nunber One. Although The Two Ronnies Opticians sketch is up there with those two also..

The point about selling small electric type heaters on a shopping channel by generally misinforming about the ‘benefits’ of doing so is a pretty disreputable tactic. In Ideal World’s case it goes back a long way before the latest incarnation. Key points about the negative side of heating just the room you are in to your detriment and to the rest of the property are completely ignored. The fact you can control your existing central heating system to run it in selected rooms only is also never referred to. The negative emotional and physical consequences of being huddled up by one heater in just one area of a home, with the rest of it freezing, portrayed as somehow a positive. Above all…you have presenters singing the praises of adopting a ‘save money’ but in truth a completely ludicrous and dangerous (or lack of it) heating strategy to the gullible. One they would never employ in their own lives. Why? Because they want be warm in their own homes in the most economical way.

Spot on (as always) Duke.

The same tactics they'd use when selling air conditioning during the summer on IW2.

Same focus on the upsides "it's amazing, instant coolness, better than a fan blowing hot air around - peter's up next with a fan, so stick around - put the air con in any room you like, maybe the bedroom for those hot sticky nights under mulberry silk duvets…" and little of the pretty major "caveat" - air con units need a giant thick hose trailing out of a window or vent, making it a bit inelegant/trip hazard if you want it in a room where the window is on the other side, there is no window, and so on.

French and Saunders done that sketch didnt they. When they had Fake Diamonique Jewellery.

Her ear went green

Maybe it wasnt French and Saunders but have come across this

Oh I remember watching the QVC French and Saunders one as a kid (and taped it - I had a crush on Dawn French as a wee lad) and it used to crease me up. I was too young to have watched QVC properly before I saw that, but I was aware of enough to get most of the jokes - although learning that Diamonique was the real name of the fake diamonds later blew my mind.

They dropped the 'necklace' (which was so thin it could only be seen through a microscope) and had to lick their palms to find it… "got it - oh no, that's a hair".

Shopping TV is ripe for parody though because it is largely absurd. There was a BBC Radio comedy series set at a fictional shopping TV channel but it's no longer available to listen back to online, which is annoying - apparently quite funny!

Recently, there was a US sketch taking the piddle out of QVC USA that I did find funny (I think someone posted it on here at the time, which is how I caught it) - fittingly for this time of year, selling chocolate Santas!

It's a bit fruity, so anyone of a nervous disposition maybe shouldn't click play 🤭

I don’t want a Chocolate Santa this year.

I'm not being funny but their advice to only heat the room you're in works perfectly well for me.

I have my ceramic heater in the living room, set to come on 30 mins before I get up, so my living room is nice and warm for me.

I then walk through to my kitchen to make breakfast. It's freezing in there so I move the heater from the living room to kitchen. Thing is I'm only in there for 10-15 mins so the kitchen doesn't get a chance to heat up. I then go back into my living room to eat my breakfast, taking the heater back through with me.

A while later I then need to go through to my bedroom to look through some stuff. It's freezing in there so I move the heater from the living room to bedroom. Thing is I'm only in there for 20 mins so the bedroom doesn't get a chance to heat up. I then go back into my living room, taking the heater back through with me, by which time the living room is starting to cool slightly.

A while later I need to go for a shower. It's freezing in the bathroom so I move the heater from the living room to bathroom. Thing is I'm only in there for 20 mins so the bathroom doesn't get a chance to heat up. I then go back into my living room, taking the heater back through with me.

A while later I then need to go back into the kitchen ...

So yeah, it works well only having one heater on and only heating the room I'm in ... no honest ... it does!!!

;)

You should strap the ceramic heater to your back. I find that it makes it so much easier to transport it around the house as I move from room to room. 😄

We aren’t even 2 hours into Sallys 8 hours yet.

To give her a break and maybe us, why didn’t they put Yiannis on at 6 and Sally back at 10

I’m surprised she didn’t want Bonfire Night Off, as aren’t the worlds press meant to be at her house
Maybe she wants to get back home for Bonfire Night? Wonder if she’ll lose her voice after 8 hours f nonstop yakking?

Thanks, Jazzy.

And it's interesting that Victoria Wood wasn't even in the Two Soups sketch, the diners were Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston, who were desperate trying not to laugh. Victoria Wood was never bothered about giving her best lines to others. Totally agree about Four Candles, its a clever sketch about words with multiple meanings but also superbly delivered by The Two Ronnie's.
