They harp on, forever, about the studio lights and no natural light in the building. So 'nothing' is as good as it is in real life. Allegedly.
Yes, the camera doesn't show up the beauty of the chips out of the stone, or that one of the prongs is broken - these all add to the value and charm of the piece (not). :D

Actually, we should write a sit-com about what goes on...there's enough material out there and certainly enough comedy...

😁 A bit of Acorn Antiques and Fawlty Towers with an overarching set up of Margin Call...

Jake 'Uncle Albert' Thompson, Dave 'Derek Trotter' Troth and Toby 'Rodney Trotter' Cavill.

Lindsey Carr could play Trigger............

"This Incitatus timepiece can be handed down for generations, featuring precision made mechanisms from Swindon......, I mean Switzerland, you could expect to pay half a million pounds for this at a auction in Salisbury, I mean, Sotherbys. Today though, we're bringing it to you for just £4.50p. Cushty! I mean, absolutely! We've even had top celebrities buying these - from Peter Sutcliffe, I mean, Peter Stringfellow to Harold Shipman. Quick - get as many as you can. They're flying out the front door. Absolutely!"

I want the part of Mrs Overall from Acorn Antiques.:D

I'm reminded of when the late lamented Victoria Wood (and I think Julie Waters too?) did a spoof of selly telly (think it was based on QVC?). It used to be on YouTube so I'll have to have a look. Very funny.

French and Saunders did a very spot on spoof of QVC in the 90s. With Rubyique jewellery in genuine Goldique, earrings that turned your ears green, and a trace chain so thin it was invisible.

This is probably what I'm thinking of - thanks! I seem to recall a scene with one of them dropping the trace chain on the table/floor and couldn't find it, because it was so tiny and thin? Brilliant!

I know this could have been put somewhere in the 'sinking' or the 'predictions' threads but I'm just awkward: noticed? Anyhoo. we all know they have an online presence, but here is my question.

Do you think Gemporia et al would fare better if they were purely an online presence? I know JM is 'basically' online (at least to me ;) ) I just thought of the fact that both Woolworth and Debenhams (the two I know of) are still online, if not on the street, or in the case of Gems and Co, on the TV.
They have tried doing an online they had a sales channel online as well as a second TV channel before that jewellery maker is an TV channel.

They also had the "Now Seen" website - which seems to have been VERY short lived.

They have too much competition online, whereas on TV, they barely have any competition other than TJC.

QVC UK would be a major competitor online and selly telly. Without the reverse auction BS! They have I1 H colour diamonds and lab grown bobby dazzlers!

I did not know Woolworths was still going.

Only in name. When they went bust - and someone bought the name.

Its not the same business.

Quite common when companies go bust. B&M bought the 'Wilko' / 'Wilkinson' name last year - and they've started selling some 'Wilko' branded items in their shops. They've also opened a handful of 'Wilko' stores.

It's B&M though.
