Thats very depressing. The values are so low. A lorique Kunzite for 200-300. I suspect this is realistic pricing to be honest. I just feel like an idiot for spending so much money for their jewellery that has absolutely no heirloom quality whatsoever.

Thanks for this. No, I'm not going to bid. But, I suppose there is a slight light at the end of the tunnel. Auctions, 'usually' go up in price, but yes, there are some lower than I expected there start prices.

I would add to depressing this. The fact that every piece (that I actually saw) still had the tag on. That's sad. The original person, if it isn't a 'they have passed' so it's a needs be sale, must have bought them as an investment, thinking or believing, the Gemporia price hype. Even if they are still alive, they could 'kick' themselves. :(

It's a shame that the powers that be at Gemporia can't see it, or won't see it. Unless they do see it and buy the lot back: after all, and I'm not joking, how many times on air have they said, past and present, that they would buy back jewellery from the customer 'just for the stone'?
 
While auction estimates are always "realistic" or there to incentivise bidding, a good deal of these look like scrap start prices. A lot of the rings are clusters of small stones, so not ideal as "breakers" for the gemstones themselves. As recoveringgemaholic has said, that Lorique Kunzite is probably fairly estimated as a start price. Those lots with cards seem to indicate that many items are from 2000 or later.

The auction fees to add on as a Buyer are roughly 30% of the hammer price too.

Mind you, two jade lots! (141, 455). Better get in there, quick...

Oh blimey, I must bid for the jade......it's so rare, you know....(hope the auctioneer mentions that in his/her selling 'blurb');)

Yes, Steve Bennett used to say that on air quite frequently back in the day, when he was regularly presenting! I somehow don't think you'd hear it these days.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing, we are all wise with hindsight. As posters have said on here before, these channels are very good at getting you interested and before you know it, you've bought. But if you love the piece and still wear it, all well and good. I think we've all learnt a tremendous amount on here (I know I have) from people with a lot of knowledge, and experience often doesn't come cheap. If some of your jewellery was bought a few years back, it's probably much better quality - and higher metal weights - than today's as well, so wear it with enjoyment and don't be too hard on yourself.
 
I don’t live too far from Ryedale (sorry for the misspelling that was auto correct doing its thing) and have been to viewing days before so went today to have a look (good excuse to visit the very nice cafe next door). There was a lot of Gemporia items and although it was busy in the auction house people were more interested in old gold items, watches etc.

I noticed that the rings all seem to be large size, I don’t understand why someone would buy all those rings and not wear any of them. I do hope they haven’t bought them in the hope of making a profit. I will not be buying.

Some of you may already know but the auction house is the one from the TV show the Yorkshire Auction House which is on Really TV. I’m guessing they will be doing some filming over sale days as they had several celebrity lots including Les Dennis shoes and dressing gown from Strictly. On a side note if you are into your Yorkshire TV, Grace Lane vets that is featured on the Yorkshire vets is two doors down.

Do you reckon the Gems 'gang' will register to watch their previous items sell: or not, as the case may be? Actually, that might be a good idea for them to watch ;) That cost us £50 to make, we sold it for £1000 and 'they' sold it for £30, kinda thing :p

Perhaps they might watch 😉 I made a mistake anyone can watch you only have to register to bid. Think the Gemporia stuff is up this afternoon. It will be interesting to see how much it goes for.

Yes most of those rings went for £50 to £65 with a couple going for £80 to £90. Looks like they sold some this morning with more going this afternoon as Angus (the auctioneer) told the people in the room “Nobody goes home without a ring” 😂
 
Thanks for that, I enjoyed watching, particularly as Dave Troth is on Gemporia now flogging his jade. Cannot watch.
 
Oh and apparently the Gemporia stuff came in from York with some coins. Poor auctioneer is sitting for gemporia auctions and standing for the other sales in between😂. Heaps of bulk silver gemset rings coming. Was this Steve’s vault clear out??I’m curious about the coins. Could this be “Mirabelle’s” stuff?
